So we’ll be talking about getting control over Reason instruments in Pro Tools and how to utilize both Instrument and Midi Tracks in the process. So the first thing to do is set up a stereo Instrument Track and create a multichannel Reason Insert.
So at this point Reason should have either opened or you already opened it after launching Pro Tools. So let’s now go over to Reason and set up a synth. I would actually create a mixer in Reason first, to accomodate the instruments/synths. Now create a Subtractor Synthesizer:
If we now look at the Midi Instrument Output section in Pro Tools we can now choose the Subtractor Synth.
Now if you record arm the Instrument Track you can hear the Subtractor being triggered from Pro Tools. Now if you wanted to control other Reason Synths/Samplers using this same Instrument Track you would simply set up additional midi channels and set their outputs to the corresponding Synth/Sampler in Reason. Just like the picture below, the additional Midi Track is controlling the Thor Synth in Reason.
Check out the tutorial Pro Tools 8 – Midi Part 3 for an in depth look at utilizing midi channels in Pro Tools. Thanks for tuning in!

Thanks for the info, big help! Now I can keep session data under 1 roof, very cool.
Do you have these for a pc instead of a mac?
The Tutorials were done on mac but the concepts apply just the same for pc. The .MOV files work on both pc and mac if you have a Real player or Quicktime.
