If you are someone who has a lot of sounds and loops, then you need to really get Audiofinder.
It’s true that Pro Tools and Logic have pretty decent browsers built in ( Pro Tools Workspace Browser is especially impressive ) but none of them can even touch the almighty Audiofinder. I will be doing a video tutorial on how to use the various functions in Audiofinder but I just wanted to provide an overview here on it’s most impressive features.
Basically Audiofinder will scan all of your drives for sound files and then you can search by typing in ” kick ” for example. You can then break your searches down and organize your sounds into folders as you can see in the picture above on the lefthand side ( click on the picture for a better view ). It will scan most file types and allows for easy drag and drop into your DAW. The new ‘Spot To Pro Tools’ feature is especially cool for exact placement in the timeline.
The Sample Tool allows for all kinds of sound processing and transient slicing, you can slice sounds in Audiofinder and then export them to your DAW as individual sounds.
Another great feature is the ability to use the mac Finder as your selection for sounds and preview/analyze them in Audiofinder. In the pic above you can see the free floating sample viewer window hovering next to the Finder and playing the sound.
Bottom line is Audiofinder is an essential tool for anyone doing Audio Production.
Thanks for tuning in and Happy New Years!
Malcolm
